"Oh this looks fun!"

I'm a beginner at...

Sewing.

Last Christmas, I decided to be adventurous and hand make and sew our family Christmas stockings.

I've never sewn anything without someone first cutting everything out for me, setting up the machine, and telling me what exactly to do.

The stockings were my first sewing project to do and complete from start to finish all on my own.

I was really proud of myself and liked the finished project.

A few days ago I got an itch to sew. So I opened up my pinterest app on my phone and started to browse my craft and DIY boards in search of the perfect project.

Once I decided what I wanted to do I headed to JoAnns to purchase the material that I needed. While shopping around I opened up my app to look at the project to see how much fabric I would need..

SURPRISE!

Apparently all I looked at were the pictures and got excited and ran out the door. What I failed to notice is that the tutorial and blog site for this project was in a different language. awesome

I decided I'd just go home and research better and find something else to do but the friend I had with me looked at what I wanted to make and told me to pick out the fabric I wanted, had it cut, then said she would cut it all out for me so all I have to do is assemble the project.

The next morning I decided I didn't want to wait around for everything to be cut for me so I sat and studied the pictures of the project, set everything up and got to work. I used manila folders to help me guess the measurements and started cutting!

I was determined to do this on my own.

After MUCH fighting with the sewing machine and having a friend come take a look at it, ripping seems out about 12 different times, and deciding to give up on sewing (then continuing on with my project), I completed my SECOND ever sewing project!

I'm proud of myself and happy with my work.. No, my lines and such aren't perfectly strait and there might be a few ugly seems but I LOVE it and my little man Hyrum is going to EXTRA love it.

The finished product!!

Art Bag

The part of the bag I'm most proud of! I can't believe I was able to actually figure out how to make all of these pockets!

You put the drawing pad or coloring books in this big pocket. :)

Here is the link to the blog post that inspired this project. I believe it's in French.

T-Ball

I am now a 'soccor' mom.

Hyrum has started T-ball. His team started practicing at the beginning of March and they had their first game this week on the 9th.

We thought his team was the Blue Jays.. That's what they were told at least, but when their box of uniforms arrived...... Surprise! They are not in fact the Blue Jays but instead are the

TEXAS RANGERS!

We are totally fine with that ;)

Hyrum loved being able to finally play his first game. Each time we got ready to go to practice he would ask "am I going to play a baseball game yet?"

I think he enjoyed being the catcher very much. He kept coming to the fence to show us and his friend the gear that he was wearing.. I had to keep reminding him that he was in the middle of a baseball game. :)

What we've beem up to.

I wish I had more time to blog... One of these days life will 'slow' down. :)

Hyrum-
--His toe is still healing but no longer sensitive or bothersom for him.

--we got him registered for T-ball. He starts at the end of April and he is SUPER excited to be a 'baseball guy.'

--he started speech therapy

--He had his very first and second dentist visits in the last 1.5mos.

--A friend of his got a new baby brother a few weeks back.. Hyrum was so excited to hear about it... I wish I never would have told him. Every day now Hyrum talks about how he wants a baby brother too and what he wants to name his baby brother and what he wants to do with his baby brother....
(not sure if or when THAT will ever happen bud! Sorry!) Silly Boy

Adalyn--
--she is now 10mos old!
--she has been crawling for a few months now, she can pull up, stand up, walk along furniture and objects, and will walk along with you if you hold her hand.
--she was finally discharged from physical therapy. no more torticolis.
--she is WILD. loves to explore.
--sleeps great for the most part. :)

The Adults--
--Ricky and I just celebrated out 5yr wedding anniversary.

--Ricky is working tons of crazy hours as usual. Has been on overtime for a year now with extra work and misc. things on top of that.
--I don't have anything super special going on or happening with me.. just stay at home mom, playing and taking care of the kiddos and running them to appointments and school and what have you.

the following photos are some views from our anniversary dinner at the Space Needle rotating restraunt... and our really cool smoking icecream desert that they have been making/serving now for 50yrs.

The Toe

When 2013 begun I tried to make somewhat of a resolution of sorts...

I wanted to see how far into the year we could make it before satisfying our medical deductables. Over the last six years I've become a pro at fulfilling my medical decuctible's in the first few months. (I'm good so far this year :)

My children have decided that it would be their turn to take over that task.

The staff at Virginia Mason medical center are becoming very familiar with us.

Any way, on to the toe.

Back in August, Ricky and the children went to Target.

Hyrum being the big helpful boy that he is, ran ahead to open the door for Ricky who was carrying Adalyn.

He ended up opening the door on his big toe... OUCH. Ricky hurried him to the grab a bandaid and get his toe cleaned up.

For a afew week Hyrum's toe nail was just hardly hanging on but he wouldn't let anybody touch it.

September came and it was time for His and Adalyn's well child check-ups. I had doc look at his toe and he assured us that it was going to be fine and the nail would naturally fall off and grow back.

It did eventually fall off and a new nail started to grow.

About three weeks ago I noticed that the skin around his toe was starting to become red and within a week it was looking infected... I figured it was an infected ingrown toenail.

I made an appointment and we took him to the doctor. By the time he had this doctors apointment there was a small 'puss pocket' growing. The doctor looked at it, cut the pocket and cultured it.

At the end of the week the doctors office called me and said that Hyrum has a staph infection and needs to start an antibiotic. He was on an antibiotic for 10days and nothing changed so I took him back to the doctor and they prescribed him a stronger dose medication to take for another ten days.

Doctor said that if things didn't change we could have the nail removed because it was also ingrown.

Last week Adalyn had her 9month well child checkup. There still hadn't been any changes with Hyrum's toe so at the end of Adalyn's appointment I asked the doctor if we could go ahead and have Hyrum's nail removed, or if we needed to wait for the staff infection to clear up before hand.

He said that if we wanted we could go ahead and get it removed and that having it removed would probably help the infection clear up quicker.

So, we came home, gave Adalyn a nap and had lunch, then I called to set up an appointment with Podiatry for the nail removal.. they had an appointment for 30min later.... frantically got everything ready and went back to VM.

I didn't say why we were going back to the doctor so Hyrum assumed we were taking Adalyn to get shots...

Maybe I'm mean for not telling him upfront what we were doing but he would have screamed and cried the whole way if I did.

Hyrum was sitting in the big fancy chair/table and didn't realize that the appointment was for him until the MA took his shoe off.. he started crying and asking if the doctor was just going to look.

Doctor came it, looked at it, decided it needed to come off, then he had me climb in the seat behind Hyum, wrap my arms and legs around his body and lay back..

He numbed the toe and left the room for 5-10min, came back in, had me restrain Hyrum again and removed the nail..

Poor Hyrum was screaming and crying. I kept asking him if he could feel it and if it hurt and every time he would say "no."

It was just a big scary thing for him..

He actually wanted to see the yucky toenail before leaving.

crying and scared out of his mind

the finished product..

My poor boy. He wanted us to carry him around all weekend and he even made Daddy sleep in his bed so that he could sleep in bed with me. :)

He is walking/kind of running around now but still hobbles around and is on the mend. He's almost done with his last round of antibiotics and is super excited that he is going to grow a brand new nail that doesn't have any owies on it.

Snow Day

A few weekends ago we took a day and went with some friends up to Snoqualmie summit and went sledding and played in the snow.

The kids loved it for the most part. It was very cold and we got out there late in the afternoon so the children ended up not making it very long.

But we still had fun! (and kept somewhat 'warm')
